XAT 2018 EXAM PATTERN

Xavier Aptitude Test is conducted every year in the first week of January by XLRI on behalf of Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI).

XAT is a common admission test for the 11 institutes under XAMI, and there are more than 100 other B-Schools that accept XAT score.

XAT 2018 is yet to be conducted and will be held on January 7, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 1:35 p.m.

For the first time in the history of XAT, the entrance exam will be conducted online as a computer-based test as opposed to pen and paper-based test.

EXAM PATTERN OF XAT 2018:

The exam is divided into two parts. The 1st part in XAT 2018 would consist of 3 sections. These 3 sections in XAT exam are Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning; Decision Making; and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation.

Part-1 in XAT 2018 paper is responsible for the calculation of XAT percentile score and XAT merit list.

Part-2 in XAT question paper consists of General Awareness and Essay Writing in XAT exam. These 2 sections in XAT exam are equally important although at the first stage they will not be counted for arriving at the percentile score.

Each section contains Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) except Essay Writing which is of descriptive nature.

The total duration is 210 mins. The first part is 170 mins and the second part is 40 mins.

A negative marking of 1/4th is allotted for every question attempted incorrectly. Students have the option of not attempting 8 questions after which every unattempted question will incur a negative marking of 0.05.

  • RC Based Questions: 14 to 16
  • Verbal ability questions: 8 to 10
  • VA topics: Vocabulary, Analogy, Para Jumbles, Para Completion, Critical Reasoning, Statements-assumptions
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to Very difficult

SECTION 2: DECISION MAKING

  • Total Questions: 21
  • Type of Questions: MCQs
  • Question Groups: 7 to 8 sets of decision-making problems following 2 and 3 questions each
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to Difficult

SECTION 3: QUANTITATIVE  ABILITY & DATA INTERPRETATION

  • Total Questions: 27
  • Type of Questions: MCQs
  • Frequently asked topics: Time & Work,Percentage,Profit & Loss,Equations,Number System,Clocks,Geometry,Algebra,Mensuration,Venn Diagram,Tables,Bar Diagram,Graphs
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to Difficult

PART II

SECTION 4: GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Total Questions: 25
  • Type of Questions: MCQs
  • Question Topics: GK Questions could be based on any topic including Current domestic and international affairs; Business; Economics; social issues, appointments; conventional GK; sports; Constitution of India among others.
  • Level of difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
  • Key point: Not taken into account for the calculation of percentile in XAT exam.

SECTION 5: ESSAY WRITING

  • Total Essay questions: 1 or 2
  • How many to attempt: Need to write an essay on the given one topic only. There may be a choice between 2 topics or may not be any choice if only 1 topics is given
  • Type of question: Descriptive
  • Level of Difficulty: Mostly the essay topic is abstract. Good writing skill required
  • Time limit to write: In 20 to 25 minutes
  • Ideal size of Essay: 300 to 400 words
  • Key point: Not taken into account for calculation of percentile in XAT exam

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPEAR FOR XAT 2018:

  • Only one question will be displayed on the computer screen at a time. You have to click on Next or Previous provided at the bottom of the screen to go to the next or previous question.
  • The candidate should click on the correct choice, from the five options given. In case, the candidate does not wish to attempt the question, it can be left blank.
  • The timer is available in the TOP RIGHT-HAND CORNER of the screen.
  • The candidate can unmark answer by clicking the ‘Erase’ button provided at the bottom of the screen.

CAT result can be out any time. Don’t forget to check out the selection criteria of top IIMs.

  • The questions can be answered in any order within the given time frame.
  • The list of attempted and un attempted questions is shown in the right side of the screen. Candidates can click on any of the attempted ones to revise the answers.
  • Candidates have the option to bookmark a question in case they want to review it at a later stage by clicking on the ‘Tag’ button available at the bottom of the screen. The Bookmark on a particular question can be removed by clicking on the ‘De-Tag’ button provided at the bottom of the screen.
  • The question palette at the right of the screen shows the status of each of the questions numbered.Green means the question is unanswered.Yellow means you have not answered the question and marked it for review.Purple means you have answered the question but marked it for review and White means you have not answered the question.

TIPS TO CRACK XAT 2018:

In order to ace XAT, you need not attempt all the questions. Even half of the paper attempted right, could get you 95+ percentile. Therefore, it becomes important to maximise your correct attempts and minimise incorrect ones Given this, the best possible way to prepare for XAT 2018 exam is to understand your strengths and weaknesses and work upon them. This can be best achieved by attempting XAT mocks and previous year’s exam papers.

XAT 2018 Answer Key will be available on Official XAT Website around January 22-23, 2018.

Once it is out, you can take following steps to download it:

  1. Visit XAT 2018 official website.

  2. Log in with your XAT 2018 User ID and Password.

  3. Click on the link for XAT 2018 Answer Key.

  4. Download XAT 2018 Answer Key and Question Paper.

  5. Estimate your Score and likely Percentile.

XAT 2018 result will be out on January 23, 2018.

There are more than 150 B-schools including XLRI, SPJIMR, IMT, XIMB, TAPMI who will accept XAT 2018 scores.

XAT 2018 Results

XAT 2018 Results will be declared on 31 January 2018 by XLRI Jamshedpur and can be checked online using login credentials containing XAT Id and Date of birth. The format of the result will hold sectional and overall scores and percentiles and the score will be calculated on the basis of XAT 2018 answer key scheduled to release on 22 January 2018.

The students clearing the cutoffs will be called for further selection process. The selection process will include the following rounds

  1. WAT (Written Ability Test)
  2. Group Discussion (GD)
  3. Personal Interview (PI)
